FUTUREPROOFING SOCIAL ENTERPRISE
Welcome to the online portal of Futureproofing Social Enterprise, a multi-year, multi-country, and multi-project research trajectory dedicated to understanding the role of social enterprises in building a values-driven social economy. We are interested in how social enterprises–as economic actors–and the ecosystems that grow up around them imagine and enact systems of value alternative to profit and shareholder value. We are also interested in how social enterprises–as social actors–conceptualise and engage with markets in their pursuit of the social good.
‘Disruptive Development’:
Social Enterprise in Bangladesh

In Bangladesh, research conducted between 2013-2019 focused on social enterprises that train young women to become digital technology entrepreneurs, in order for them to work their way out of poverty while simultaneously providing digital services to their rural communities.
Futureproofing Social
Enterprise Workshop

On 18 June 2019, we co-developed a Futureproofing Social Enterprise Workshop with social enterprises to identify new research trajectories related to data practices, funding and investment, personal experiences of entrepreneurship, and public-sector relationships.
‘DataForSE’: The New Data Economies of Social Enterprise

A new project focuses on the relationship between big data and social enterprise and will be a comparative study of Bangladesh and Scotland. Both countries boast strong digital/data-driven innovation policies and complex, well-established social enterprise sectors.
